ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS AMONG TWO OR MORE CONCEPTS
This cognitive feature enables the understanding of the relationships between two or more things or concepts. It is required to tell the time on an analog clock because the ability to differentiate between the hour and minute hands is paramount.
Where a deficit is present grammar and reading comprehension suffer because the relationships between elements or characters are not understood. A person may reverse the letters b-d-p-q or they may be uncertain about whether they have understood the intended meaning correctly of both the written and spoken word. Mathematics are also procedural instead of conceptual. A person may learn their times tables but cannot add or subtract different numbers as they do not understand underlying concepts, procedures, or formulas.
Sufferers are unable to understand cause and effect relationships and they are never certain whether they have understood and without an ability to spot logical inconsistencies in what is being said or written they struggle in social situations and it impacts on their decision-making ability because it is harder to consider multiple alternatives in their mind at the same time.
